In the heart of the enchanting rolling fields, lived a shepherd boy. His life was mostly unadulterated, and unsophisticated. His primary duty was mainly to look after his flock of sheep.

Their gentle baas and the rustling of the wind among the solo tree on the hilltop were his only associates. Day after day, guarding his wards imbued in him a feeling of quiet fulfillment.

But, there were at times moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would yearn for company. On one such day because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy devised a troublesome plan.

Tales of wolves hunting on sheep had long been circulating in the village. So, the boy decided to used this fear and played a joke on the townsfolk.

One morning he dashed into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf that has taken my sheep!” The scared villagers ran up the hills to help but discovered nothing threatening.

The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This trick here continued for a few more days. However, one day, a real wolf actually come to prey the herd. The shepherd boy raced for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could rescue only few of his flock. Devastated, he went back to the town only to be met with a lesson on honesty and the results of crying wolf.

The story of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the significance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the perils of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is tough to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was in the past.
